Sandy qualified as a physiotherapist in Heidelberg, Germany in 2000 and became registered and accredited to work in the UK in 2001. Initially working at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, Sandy started specialising in Neurology in 2003 and with a special interest in Spinal Cord Injury, moved to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in 2006 where she specialised further in the fields of Spinal Cord Injury and Pain Management.
With a deepening interest in Spinal Cord Injury and its long-term sequelae, Sandy left the NHS in 2009 to work as a care service manager for patients with Spinal Cord Injury in the community. She was the first physiotherapist to hold this position with the Active Assistance care agency. This gave her a great insight into the ongoing issues patients face after discharge and the importance of ongoing rehabilitation and value of therapy input.
In 2012 Sandy joined the American start-up company Ekso Bionics and became their Clinical Training Manager for their medical exoskeleton which was initially designed for patients with Spinal Cord Injury. This work took her to rehabilitation units all over Europe and she has been able to work with the latest rehabilitation technologies and key opinion leaders in the field of neurorehabilitation.
Sandy’s particular interest continues to lie in the field of Spinal Cord Injuries and her expertise covers all aspects from the acute phase through to rehabilitation, transition into the community and ongoing life-long well-being.
