Clare Cahill

Area of Expertise: Occupational Therapist

Clare Cahill

Clare has over 20 years’ experience as an occupational therapist specialising in the rehabilitation of neurological conditions. On graduating Clare initially worked at the Royal Hospital for Neuro disability, Putney where her interest in neurological conditions began, specifically acquired brain injury.

Clare broadened her experience by working in a variety of clinical settings as a senior therapist in acute rehabilitation wards, day services and within the community setting almost exclusively in neurological rehabilitation. Prior to commencing independent work Clare was, for several years, Lead Occupational Therapy Clinician and Acquired Brain injury Specialist in the Community Neuro Rehabilitation team in Hounslow.

Since 2009 Clare has worked as an independent practitioner. She provides individualised rehabilitation with a practical, graded approach working with the person to achieve their goals and facilitate independence. She undertakes a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s physical, psychological and cognitive difficulties and the impact of these on their everyday life. She is trained in a wide range of neurological assessment and treatment approaches which she uses with practical strategies to meet the person’s often complex needs. She enjoys working with families and other professionals to provide a multidisciplinary, integrated approach to rehabilitation.

She has significant teaching experience and regularly provides training to support workers, other professionals and voluntary agencies. Her experience as a brain injury case manager and providing medico legal reports supports her independent practice.

Clare maintains her professional development by regularly attending courses, conferences and forums to support her practice. She is registered with the Health Profession Council, holds professional membership with the British Association of Occupational Therapists and the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section of Neurological Practice and the Specialist Section for Independent Practice. In June 2013 Clare became involved with Headway West London; she is a committee member and facilitates the Ealing support group.
